TRAC Information — Riverbend Ragg-Times January 2005

TRAC has carried out several initiatives since being incorporated over a year ago.

For the past year, TRAC’s major project has been the pursuit of a Multipurpose Recreation Facility for this area.

The Recreation Facility Master Plan adopted by the City of Edmonton has identified Terwillegar Riverbend and North Central Edmonton as the two priority locations for new multipurpose recreation facilities.

Our group has made several presentations to Edmonton City Council.  The last presentation made by Joe Yurkovich and myself was to speak to City Council in relation to their 2005 Budget deliberations, where we asked City Council to ensure that steps are taken so that the capital expenditures for a multipurpose recreation facility in Terwillegar Riverbend can be budgeted to occur in 2006.

As part of the City of Edmonton’s process for approval of a multipurpose recreation facility in our area, many of you have participated in one way or another in a Needs Assessment Study carried out by the Banister Research Group.  Compilation of the data and a full report will be ready for presentation to the public in early March 2005.

Further planning, private and corporate fundraising and requests for support from other levels of government will be carried out during 2005 and beyond, so that we may finally achieve our dream facility.  If all goes well, digging could begin in mid-2006!

TRAC has also become involved in the planning of Terwillegar Park, a City-wide park.  TRAC’s interest in this planning is to bring people together to have transparent and constructive discussion on future plans and development. We want to ensure that residents of Terwillegar Riverbend are empowered to have an impact on the type of development that occurs in Terwillegar Park.

TRAC has definitely made a positive contribution on behalf of this community and will continue to provide a unified voice for our residents in 2005!

Membership to TRAC is free.  For updates and to be added to our email list please contact us at: tracvip@telus.net

2005 aims to be another productive year for TRAC.
